One Day at a Gas Station
College had been a comfort to her. So easy there, where people would offer you food in nice warm trays—who cared how good it tasted so long as it was edible? Papers were the biggest stresser imaginable—and sure, while those were intense, it was nothing compared to prospect of no home, living out of your car, with the only prospects ahead being the vague promise of an interview.
She had spent the night in a motel. Not far from her parent's house, where she had spent the weekend. Her parents, though they refused to to keep her around, did offer her a place every so often. “We can't just throw you out like that. Though we migh
